Besides providing information about HIV/AIDS and related issues through conducting workshops, development of informative material, distribution of condoms and regular media presentations, the IEC unit of ACT has started in 1999 to target the private sector. The organization has designed a model which includes the following components:
Presentations to top-management about the socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS on workplaces. This includes information about a human rights based approach to respond to the epidemic within the workforce. This happens in co-operation with the AIDS Law Unit.
The model of a comprehensive prevention, care and support programme includes:
Training of all level of employment, e.g. middle management and supervisors
Training of peer educators
Design and implementation of IEC campaigns
Counseling and home based care
Extension into the community
Monitoring and supervision of programme
Organizing special events
Developing material
Referring to experts
Monitoring and Evaluation
In co-operation with Family Health International (FHI) ACT has developed a manual for trainers of peer educators in June 2001. It has been upgraded in May 2002 , after being field tested for one year and again in 2006.
