Home Based Care

                          

Since inception of AIDS Care Trust has been conducting a home based care program which in short involves sending counselors out into the communities to counsel and care for those clients in need and who are unable to come to the center for their various needs.

 

Home Based Care provides comprehensive support to persons infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Special support is given to the families of those who are infected. Approximately 3000 clients receive home based care services annually. The unit operates from the Katutura Hospital, Central Hospital and a drop in centre located in Katutura.  AIDS Care Trust has been selected to distribute and supervise HBC kits in Khomas region. Other material support in the form of food, supplements and transportation is provided to PLWHAs.

 

Totals of Home Based Care activities from August 2005 until November 2005

 

6000 People were reached through HIV/AIDS awareness outreach program, 107 people were trained to provide Home Based Care and support for chronically ill persons, 1596 chronically ill people received Home Based Care, 150 Home Based Care kits were distributed, 105 people enrolled at PLWHA group, 487 clients from the Home Based Care are currently on ARV, 142 clients from Home Based Care are started ARVs, 346 people were trained by Home Based Care to provide support to family members on ART, 190 orphans and other vulnerable children received psychosocial, nutritional and material support, 170 were trained in providing psychosocial, nutritional and material support to OVC’s by the Home Based Care and 47 OVC’s enrolled for care and support.
